"Trip to Palm Springs". Article by Polina Dickenson.

In Palm Springs, California it was unbearably hot. It’s so hot because the city is in the middle of the Mojave Desert. Mountains surround it which traps hot air. When I went there it was about 110 degrees. If you had a hotel without an air conditioner, you would probably spend every minute of every day in the pool! At night it is “cooler” though, say about 85 or 90 degrees!

I enjoyed staying in Palm Springs also because of the landscape. There are palm trees everywhere and huge mountains with sand, rocks and even scorpions! There are also lots of windmills in the mountains for energy. It’s super windy in Palm Springs! Perfect for collecting energy. There are many, many sand dunes. In some places, if you stand with your back to the wind, sand will fly by your face!

Almost every single house has a pool in the backyard. I would want that but here in the Northwest it is absolutely not necessary!

The cactuses were everywhere! Some had dull bristles and you could feel them. They felt fuzzy and a little bit tingly. But the sharp cactuses, if you tried to touch them, it would be like a million little bee or even wasp stings in your hand. Never, and I repeat, never touch a sharp cactus in Palm Springs!

Palm Springs is an absolutely wonderful place to visit, if you don’t mind feeling like you’re in an oven!
